Community dialogue on extractive data

Tentang program ini

The energy transition is reshaping mining and energy in resource-hosting countries. New investment can bring revenue and jobs; it can also disrupt livelihoods and harm the environment. Where investment recedes, communities may be left with lost income and the environmental consequences of past extraction.

Building on a 2020 scoping study, the Ford Foundation has supported EITI’s “Engaging communities in a just transition” project since January 2022 in Colombia, Ghana, and Indonesia (North Morowali). Communities asked for timely, usable information and a continuing role in decisions across the life of mining and energy projects.

PWYP Indonesia, supported by the International Secretariat, is now in a further phase aligned with EITI Indonesia’s priorities: stronger data access and use by local stakeholders, and stronger community participation in dialogue and decision-making.

Tujuan

01

Build EITI Indonesia’s capacity so disclosures are relevant to community needs and presented in ways communities can access, understand, and use.

02

Build EITI Indonesia’s capacity to facilitate dialogue between communities, government, companies, and civil society at local and national level.

03

Support the EITI International Secretariat in sharing learning on subnational data access, including a sustainable model for subnational EITI implementation.

Komponen kerja

01

Promoting subnational data access and use

EITI stakeholders in Indonesia develop cost-effective, sustainable systems for disclosing data in formats that are easy for communities to access, understand, and use.

02

Strengthening community participation in dialogue and decision-making

EITI stakeholders develop systems for subnational dialogue on the impacts of the energy transition, so government and companies understand and respond to community priorities.

03

Advancing community perspectives in global EITI implementation

The International Secretariat connects insights from Colombia, Ghana, and Indonesia with global EITI stakeholders to inform subnational implementation elsewhere.
