Mainstreaming Gender Inclusion and Equality in Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition

A focused 2023 push to put gender equity and inclusiveness on the agenda of Indonesia’s energy-transition planning.

April – June 2023

Discussion on gender and energy transition

Tentang program ini

Indonesia is pushing for a rapid shift to renewable energy, with a zero-emission economy targeted for 2060 and 2050 in the energy sector. The projected renewable share of 24 percent by 2030 is not ambitious enough for a 1.5°C pathway, and JETP risks being used to support false solutions that sustain coal.

Women and girls from low-income households may be disproportionately affected by the lack of clean, affordable energy. This project promoted gender equity and inclusiveness as indicators of a just energy transition, working with the Bersihkan Indonesia coalition, relevant ministries, women’s groups, DPOs, and communities.
